What Would Happen During Alcohol Rehab Houston

What Would Happen During Alcohol Rehab Houston

by Annabelle Holman

Drinking problems are very common all around the world because alcohol is often used as a means wherein one could escape from problems that would occur on his life. Now the thing about having a drinking problem is that it will create both physical conditions as well as mental conditions if it is not treated. So if one is an alcoholic who would want to stop, then he might want to join an alcohol rehab houston program.

Now if one would begin this program, he will first have to take out all of the alcohol that was consumed so that his body will be cleansed. Now it is important for one to flush out all of the alcohol in the body because it will create problems for him in the long run. In order to do this, he first has to go through a few weeks of complete body cleansing and detoxifying.

Now do take note that while one is in the detoxification process, he will be experience a lot of discomfort and some symptoms of withdrawal. This will happen because the body is trying to adjust to not having alcohol enter it. If one is not such a heavy drinker but still a regular drinker, he will be experiencing mild symptoms like anxiety, shaking, and nausea.

Of course the heavier drinkers will experience worse symptoms. Now heavier drinkers may experience things like slight hallucinations, some slight seizures, and even high blood pressure. Now one can take medicine in order for him not to feel these symptoms but they will only last a short time.

Now once the few weeks of detoxification have passed, then his body has already cleansed from the substance. Now the next thing to think of now would be the curing of the mind because being addicted to this substance would also affect the thinking of a person. Of course he will receive therapy after the detox.

Now one of the things that would give therapists a hard time would be the denial tendencies of the alcoholic patient. More often than not, the patients would still continue denying that they have a problem even at this stage. Now the therapists would constantly be having sessions with the patients so that the therapists may help try to change the mindset of the patients.

Now while one is undergoing rehab, he will sometimes feel negative feelings toward himself like loathing or depression. When this happens, some medicine like antidepressants or others of the like would be prescribed. The reason for their prescription is that having negative thoughts would slow down the mental healing process.

Once the patient is already getting better, then the therapist will get him to join activities that will take his mind off drinking. He may introduce the patient to sports like football or basketball. He will also still continue to counsel the alcoholic and even let him sit in group sessions so that the healing process will be fast. This will go on until the alcoholic has already been cured and has already gotten his life back on track.
