Doctors must have a current certification to be allowed to practice in most hospitals. Nurses do not need it to get their license but cannot care for critical patients without the certification. The cards must be renewed every two years and this is sometimes a challenge for doctors who must try to work it into the schedule of seeing patients and emergency situations that can arise.
