Chances are, you or someone you care about is struggling with obesity right now. If so, you have seen firsthand the problems that obesity can cause, including joint pain, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, poor body image, and a myriad of other physical and emotional issues. Many people in this situation have tried unsuccessfully to lose the extra weight and have become desperate for a solution to stop their misery.

Take advantage of your daily tips to and from the office. If you can, ride your bike or walk to work. If you take public transport, get off a few blocks early and walk the rest of the way. If you drive your car, park farther away from your office building and walk. Once you get inside, always take the stairs going up or down. This is a great way to wake up in the morning, stay active during the day, and relieve stress at the end of the day.

So what other options are available? One popular diet that can be very effective in rapid weight loss is the Atkins Diet, more formally called the Atkins Nutritional Approach.

The basic premise of the Atkins diet is that by eating a small amount of carbohydrates, one can force the body to use fat stores for energy instead of glucose from food consumption. When an individual eats carbohydrates, glucose levels spikes.

Try replacing your office chair with an exercise ball. You can also keep stretchy bands, small weights, or other resistance-forming tools at your desk to use whenever you can. You can do wall sits or hold your legs up off the ground when you sit in your chair. Do whatever you can think of to stay active in your office.

There are little things that you can always do on the go. For instance you can always use those grip strengtheners even when you are driving in the car. Also you can always park a little further from the store and get a little bit of a leg work out if you need to.

Absolutely. The science behind the Atkins diet makes it quite effective. Many people experience rapid weight loss when first starting the diet, and continue to lose weight over a long period of time. As with any diet, some will drop out and return to their old weight. But as long as the diet is adhered to, reduced weight is sustainable.

Not only is this good exercise, but it can make a boring business trip an exciting adventure. For example if you are in Mexico, go explore the new culture rather than spending all your down time in the hotel room.

This question is controversial among health professionals. There are some changes that happen when practicing the Atkins diet that may have negative health impacts. However, it is important to also consider the negative impacts of prolonged obesity as well. If you are interested in the Atkins diet, consult with your healthcare professional and find out if it could be a good fit for you.
