Fasting has become a very popular way to lose weight. Although fasting weight loss is made out to be the "new" thing the concept of fasting as old as time itself. Ancient eastern religions have practiced it for centuries as a way to cleanse both the body and the mind. If you are trying to lose weight with dieting there are 3 things you need to be careful of. 1. Dehydration
Its estimated that we can survive as much as 60 days without food but we cannot survive more than 3 days without water. Water is the most important element to sustain health and life for that matter. Often time those who go on a fast reach a point where they stop to even drink fluids in adequate amounts. This can lead to serious health problems and you need to make sure you stay well hydrated at all times.
2. Lack of Nutrients
Just because you are not eating does not mean your body should not get the required vitamins and minerals. Any fasting program that does not include a good plan to supplement vital vitamins and nutrients is not worth sticking to. It can have some serious health consequences.
3. Coming off The Fast
Fasting for extended periods of time is never a good idea. You need to make sure that the length of your fast is appropriate. Regardless of how long you fast, you will eventually return to eating and this is where you have to be careful. After a day or two of fasting you will start to lose your appetite but when you start eating again your appetite can return with a vengeance. Be careful. Follow your fasting program and make sure you wean off the fast properly to avoid overeating.
When done correctly, fasting is a very healthy thing to do. If done incorrectly it can be extremely unhealthy. Don't try and invent your own program. Find something that's worked out professionally and stick with it. In the end you will get better results and stay healthy in the process.
